VULTURE & PHOENIX: two weeks (ish) to submit

submissions due Jan 29; party Feb 7

It’s winter and we’re running out of ice: specifically, issues of MM#2, Ice & Soot, as well as the precious pints of Mystic Moneymaker flavored ice cream that our friends at Third Time Ice Cream Co put together. Both are already in short supply, so stop by Third Time for any pints they have left, and hit us up for Issue #2 copies. Couple announcements:

1. ISSUE 3 SUBMISSION: due Jan 29

Issue #3’s theme is VULTURE & PHOENIX and submissions are due by Jan 29. This is January’s new moon, which I love because it means every night you can look up at a giant Mystic Moneymaker Submissions Egg Timer. Send us your art before the sky runs out of moon. Submit at bit.ly/iammystic.

2. ADVICE COLUMN: questions due 1/22

Do you have a problem you cannot seem to get past? Does your soul hurt? Would it help to hear a stranger say something you maybe need to hear? Do you want to be kinder, truer, braver? Send a letter, anonymously or not, to Sky at [email protected] by January 22 and read next month’s Mystic Moneymaker to get your answer.

3. ISSUE 3 LAUNCH PARTY: Friday, 2/7 at Aeronaut Somerville, 6:30

Our launch parties so far have been afternoon events, mainly to ensure space at bars - but they’ve been so much fun that we’re swinging for the fences and giving Issue 3 a coveted “weekend night” timeslot. We’ll be at one of the long tables at Aeronaut - look for a stack of magazines.

Launch parties are still the best and most reliable way to grab a copy of the Moneymaker. They are also a great way to meet contributors + other cool folks, as well as an opportunity to support places like Aeronaut that stock themselves with locally-made chocolate and free flavored seltzer.

The second-most-reliable way to get a copy is to subscribe at a Moneygiver level and get a copy in the mail. The third is just to find us (John & Aliza). We try to be pretty findable, and usually carry a copy or two.

OTHER STUFF, SINCE YOU’RE STILL HERE

Written submission notes: Our submissions guide is already outdated and we’re working on an improved & more comprehensive one, but in short: if you’ve got something that doesn’t fit the specific A/B/C guidelines, don’t limit yourself, particularly if it’s a written piece. We’re genuinely interested in seeing how much text we can fit in these, so if your essay or column or screed or whatever feels over-long, send it anyway. If there’s an issue (hasn’t happened yet) we’ll try and let you know.

Thank you for sending stuff! Issue #2 ruled - I mean, I think Issue #1 ruled as well, but man, Issue #2: recipes! advice! photography! songs! - and that is thanks, entirely, to our incredible community of contributors. The caliber of the art we get motivates us to print and produce the best possible showcase for it. We’re both immensely grateful to be part of that virtuous cycle with you.

Thank you! We’re really, really glad that you’re here.
